Drugs & Medical Devices
Medical devices, like pacemakers, artificial stents and insulin pumps, are among the best breakthroughs of modern medicine. Designed to improve quality of life, prolong and safe it, they can also be orthopedic implants, artificial tissue or surgical equipment used to help patients or surgeons during their procedures.
So many of such varied instruments of medicine have allowed people to keep on working, be productive or creative, enjoying family and life itself, unless they fail. Then, bills pile up, lives are disrupted, and the future is beyond anyone’s imagination.
Even surgical implants from well-known and big pharmaceutical manufacturers, commonly thought to be trusted, can make medical products with design flaws or do faulty manufacturing. The same holds true of the drug manufacturing.
Whether used during surgery, in an emergency room, or brought over-the-counter, these medical products are trusted to do their job, work as advertised or promised. In most cases they do. However, flaws and errors, and lack of proper testing, are among the most common examples of design or manufacturing failures. The problem is that such actions may result in a defective medical device, causing severe injury or even death.
In their hurry to get drugs and medical devices to patients thru hospitals and doctors, for a faster growth of the profit margins, the pharmaceutical industry sadly risks patient’s life and welfare. That is what happens when big pharma allows faulty products on the market, sometimes knowingly.
For more than twenty-five years of handling cases against major pharma companies and medical device makers, our attorneys have proven in courts around the United States the reckless, negligent and even criminal actions responsible for a defective medical device implanted or used on a patient. That is not only our view as a national personal injury law firm. It has been extensively reported by general media and specialized medical journals.

to get drugs to market
“In the pharmaceutical industry’s rush to get drugs to market, safety usually comes last. Long studies to truly assess a drug’s risks just delay profits after all — and if problems do emerge after medication hits the market, settlements are usually less than profits. Remember, Vioxx still made money.” Alternet, 11/18/2010
Big pharma pushes drugs and medical products to market almost at any cost. It uses the Food and Drug Administration’s procedures to pass medicines that never should’ve been sold in the first place.
Is not by coincidence that big pharma spends hundreds of millions of dollars in lobbyist and politicians on Capitol Hill each year to influence laws and policies for the benefit of their company’s growing profits. In lobbying alone, they spend $80 million a year.
People’s health, anyone might think, should be top on the list of priorities. But politicians don’t like upsetting big pharma because they depend on the pharmaceutical campaign contributions, constantly and for many years now.
The FDA is responsible for licensing drugs and medical devices, so it has its own responsibility in putting pharma profits before lives. It too has been subjected to the policy changes influenced by the manufacturers’ lobby. The opioid epidemic is an example of such practice. It took years for the public to recognize it, even though it quadrupled deaths by overdose between 1999 and 2015, as reported by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
Pharmaceutical companies tried to divert the main issue putting the blame of millions of deaths on the victims being addicts. Yet the fact is that they have been pouring enormous amount of money and resources to push mass prescriptions of medicines.
We list drugs here that have been investigated for causing life changing side effects or taking a life.
With dangerous medical devices, in the process from design to manufacturing and distribution, risks or errors are undisclosed to proper authorities. Worst yet, a defective product or improperly instructed by the manufacturer on their correct use; gets to the supplier, hospital and medical professional without warning, putting lives in danger.
These are instruments and artifacts that end implanted in people’s bodies or they can be equipment used to take care of the patient during surgeries.
